Teen Collects 25K Books To Donate To Kids In Need

June 28, 2018

Julie Foos in Cleveland isn't spending her summer at a camp, she's spending it in her basement - but for a good cause...

After reading that Cleveland has one of the lowest literacy rates in the country  and many children there don't have access to books, Juile was inspired. At first, she set a goal to collect 250 books to donate to kids in need but after easily blowing past that number, she has now collected 25,000 books in the past three years!

Her basement is now full of sorted box of new and used books from school, businesses, families all over that are being donated to literacy nonprofits and any child who use them.

"They’re going to kids in lower-income families who maybe aren’t able to get to a library, or who don’t have access to books at home," Foos says. "I can’t imagine what my life would have been like if I didn’t have that chance."
