There's a bill in consideration to make it the state's fruit!

According to this NBC 12 article, pawpaws are currently being considered to be recognized as the state's fruit. Currently, Virginia doesn't have a recognized state fruit, and apparently the discussion is going to extend until 2021. I presume the state has more pressing issues to deal with, but for now, it's a little light-hearted fun and I'm excited that such an odd fruit may be representing our state!

The article reads, "House Bill 592, sponsored by Del. Elizabeth Guzman, D-Prince William, would honor pawpaws as the official state fruit. The measure was proposed after a local scout troop noticed Virginia is without state fruit representation. Ashley Jacobs, assistant leader of the 53rd Barred Owls of Gainesville, said the scouts noticed the discrepancy during a hike."
