It's #ChildrensHospitalWeek!

To shine a light on the importance of children’s hospitals and how donations help kids get the best care!

March 18, 2019

To shine a light on the importance of children’s hospitals and how donations help kids get the best care when they need it, Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) is pleased to participate in the third annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek, scheduled for March 18-24. CHoR is one of 170 member Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) across North America participating in the week-long initiative.

The following activities encourage support for children’s hospitals, including CHoR, March 18-24:

  • Wear a bandage. Show your support for CHoR by wearing a bandage of your choice, taking a photo, and sharing it with the #ChildrensHospitalsWeek hashtag.
  • Tune in to the #ChildrensHospitalsWeek Live-a-thon Wednesday, March 20, at 8:00 p.m. (EST): The exciting, live event will feature appearances by various celebrities and 10 kids who represent the 10 million kids treated annually at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. Catch the action at Facebook.com/CMNHospitals.

Emma Blair, age 9, of Henrico County was selected to serve as the 2019 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion representing Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. She is treated at CHoR for a cleft lip and palate and has personally seen the impact of philanthropy dollars at her hospital. When asked about her experience at CHoR Emma says, “I was born with a cleft lip and cleft palate so I got it fixed. I like going to Children’s Hospital because they’re all nice to me and tell me what’s going on.” Beginning with #ChildrensHospitalsWeek Emma’s story will be shared across Central Virginia throughout the year thanks to the many local business who organize fundraising programs and events to help the hospital.

“With the third annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek in 2019, we’re taking the opportunity to honor not only our Champions and partners, but also the hundreds of children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada who impact the lives of millions of children annually,” said John Lauck, president and CEO of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. “We’re reminded daily of the fact that contributions of all sizes add up to provide critical funding for pediatric medical equipment, services, research and charitable care, and that community donations are vital for local kids in need.”
