Luciana Lira, a teacher, did a great act of kindness for her student and his family.

Good Morning America reported the mother of one of her students gave birth to a baby, but could not care for the baby as the mother, brother, and father all contracted COVID-19.

Lira teaches English as a second language at Hart Magnet Elementary School in Stamford, Connecticut.

The baby was born on April 2, five weeks early, but is good and healthy. GMA reported that the baby's mother was reportedly very sick and was intubated for weeks. The mother is now at home and is recovering.

On Facebook, Lira's friend, Joy Colon, posted that the teacher got a call from the mother while she was in labor. The newborn's father asked Lira if she could take care of the baby.

Colon explained that her friend didn't hesitate to bring the baby into her home. Lira has known the family since the beginning of the school year.

"They were virtually strangers to one another. And yet, my friend did what truly good people do. She said yes," Colon wrote.

Lira is taking care of the baby until the whole family tests negative for the virus. She said it had been a fantastic experience, and she is happy that the family was able to trust her. While the teacher is with the baby, Lira continues to teach remotely.

Colon praised her friend for taking on this act of kindness. She said this is a challenging time for all of us, as we understand that this is the new normal for us.
