Elton John Is Getting His Very Own Coin

The second to receive the Royal Mint's Music Legends series honor

Sir Elton John has been honored with his very own official UK coin. Becoming the first solo artist to receive the accolade created by The Royal Mint and Universal Music Group's Bravado merch division.

Elton’s coin marks the second installment of their “Music Legends” collection. which recognizes Britain’s most iconic musicians and launched with a Queen coin back in January.

Designed by artist Bradley Morgan Johnson, who incorporated the singer’s iconic straw boater hat, accompanied by a Union Jack and a musical note to create an image of Elton’s trademark glasses. The commemorative coins will be available for “purchase in Gold proof, Silver proof and Brilliant Uncirculated editions,” according to the Royal Mint press release.

Elton expressed his gratitude over the honor, “It really is a fabulous honor to be recognized in this way,” adding; “the last few years have contained some of the most memorable moments of my career, and this is another truly humbling milestone on my journey.”

And while the last few years have been undeniably memorable, John announced that he will be taking a stroll down memory lane, with the launch of a new weekly Classic Concert Series, featuring archival footage from some of his greatest shows from around the globe. Debuting on his YouTube channel every weekend for six weeks, the series raises funds the Elton John AIDS Foundation in support of COVID-19 relief efforts. The first screening, this past Friday was of the singer’s 1976 performance at Edinburgh’s Playhouse Theatre.
